What is Chronic Venous Insufficiency?

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when leg veins fail to direct blood flow back towards the heart. Instead, the blood flows backward, causing blood to pool in the legs. This pooling puts pressure on the walls of the veins, which can lead to spider veins, varicose veins, and venous ulcers.
